Requirements for companies which handle or store eradicated poliovirus or materials potentially infectious for polioviruses are described in the following documents:

  • GAPIII: WHO Global Action Plan to minimize poliovirus facility-associated risk after type-specific eradication of wild polioviruses and sequential cessation of oral polio vaccine use. Describes requirements for poliovirus containment. GAP III requirements must be fulfilled to obtain a Certificate of Containment from WHO.
  • CCS: "Containment Certification Scheme". Describe the certification process associated with GAPIII.
  • PIM-Guidance: "Guidance to minimize risks for facilities collecting, handling or storing materials potentially infectious for polioviruses". Guidance for storage and handling of materials potentially infectious for polioviruses.
