Certificate of Containment (CC) WHO certificate for full conformity with GAPIII requirements.
Certificate of Participation (CP) Initial WHO certificate for facilities eligible for full conformity with GAPIII requirements. Alternatively for period of cessation of handling or storage.
Containment Certification Scheme (CCS) WHO’s guidelines for the certification process in relation to GAPIII.
Global Action Plan III (GAPIII) WHO´s plan for minimizing facility-associated breach of poliovirus.
Global Commission for the Certification of the Eradication of Poliomyelitis (GCC) Commission organised by WHO to define parameters and processes to certify eradication of poliovirus.
Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) Public-private partnership led by national governments with five partners – WHO, Rotary International, US CDC and UNICEF.
Containment In this context: A system for confining poliovirus within a defined space.
Interim Certificate of Containment (ICC) WHO certificate for general conformity with GAPIII requirements.
National Authority for Containment (NAC) National authority responsible for control of containment of poliovirus and PIM.
Oral polio vaccine (OPV) Vaccine with attenuated Sabin poliovirus strain.
Poliovirus-essential facility (PEF) Facilities that handle or store infectious poliovirus.
Potentially Infectious Materials (PIM) Materials potentially containing infectious poliovirus.
Regional Commission for the Certification of the Eradication of Poliomyelitis (RCC) Regional WHO certification commission verifying polio eradication. Comprised of public health and scientific experts.
Vaccine-derived poliovirus (VDPV) Poliovirus that has been given as oral poliovaccine that has subsequently been transmitted between persons.
Wild poliovirus (WPV) Original poliovirus strain.
World Health Assembly (WHA) Decision-making body of WHO. Attended by WHO member states.
